The role and classification of moisture-proof mat

Written byAdventor

Moisture-proof self inflating mats are very important when camping in the wild. They  mainly have the following three functions:

First, anti-corrosion. Because it is difficult to find a flat place when camping in the wild, you will feel very uncomfortable when you sleep. If you use a moisture-proof pad, the situation will be much better.

Secondly, keep warm. Since the body is usually in direct contact with the ground when camping in the wild (only the heat insulation effect of the tent bottom is minimal), if there is a layer of moisture-proof pad between the body and the ground, the warmth effect will be much.

Third, moisture-proof. When camping in the wild, the ground is usually very damp at night. Because the moisture-proof pad is waterproof, it can play a role in moisture insulation.

self inflating mats Category:

   inflatable cushion

Advantages: Comfortable, softness can be adjusted, and the price is not expensive.
Disadvantages: too heavy, too big, and easy to break. Air cushions also cannot provide good insulation.

In addition, there are also great requirements for your lung capacity-you need to use your mouth to blow.

The open air chamber is made of a foam material like sponge.

Advantages: more comfortable, lighter, cheaper, and warmer than inflatable.
Disadvantages: Because the material is an open structure, it has poor moisture resistance and is not suitable for use in a humid environment. The heat preservation performance is worse than the closed air chamber type, and the compressibility is also poor (not suitable for carrying), and the service life is shorter.

The  closed air cell type is made of a foam material composed of a large number of tiny closed air cells.

Advantages: cheap, excellent insulation, thin, good moisture resistance.
Disadvantages: heavier than it looks; because it is thin, it is not very comfortable to sleep.

The self-inflating type seals the open air chamber in a waterproof nylon shell, which will automatically expand when used.

Advantages: It is as comfortable as the open air chamber, but the insulation is much better; it is waterproof and moisture-proof; the air volume of the air chamber can be adjusted.
Disadvantages: expensive; easy to puncture; larger in size and heavier.

For moisture-proof pads, warmth, weight, comfort, durability and size are in turn important, but for a climber, a good night’s sleep is a very important thing, and a good moisture-proof pad is also very important. important.

Aluminum film moisture-proof pad EVA foam, good moisture-proof and comfortable.

   Advantages: light, cheap and cost-effective.
   Disadvantages: easy to break.
