Some tips on self inflating sleeping pads

Ultra-light pads are great for backpacks, but more expensive. You can choose mummy or tapered shape to reduce the volume, reduce the volume, and thus reduce the weight. Short-length closed-cell foam pads are also heavy. If you are traveling with a partner backpack, the two-person lightweight sleeping mat can save ounces.

At least, your shoulders and hips need to be placed on the mat. Regular (usually 72 inches long) and long (usually 78 inches) pads will isolate your legs and feet-this is a great advantage for cold autumn and winter travel. A short or 3 / 4-length pad (usually 47 or 48 inches) is lighter in weight and smaller in packaging (you can put folded clothes or your backpack under your legs and feet to ensure some).

Sleeping pad width
Almost every pad provides a standard width of 20 inches. If you are a big man or tend to roll a lot, you may need a width of 25 or 30 inches (but consider the size of your tent to ensure that you can place two wider mats side by side). Normally, the "long" version of the pad will also be wider by default, but in some styles, you can get a wide pad that is still "regular" in length.
Sleeping mat construction
Some cushions have larger side fences, often called "rails," that can help you prevent rolling when turning while sleeping. This is especially good for children. Some cushions have pillow covers for your head. The design of the bezel depends to a large extent on personal preference.
Inflatable sleeping pad
Some pads have high-volume inflation and deflation valves that can accelerate air in or out. Some newer pads have larger "neck" openings, allowing rapid inflation and less breathing. Cushions with independent plenums or layers can give you peace of mind: if one layer fails, the other layer will still give you some cushion.
Sleeping mat surface
If you are a restless sleeper, look for a mat with a textured or brushed fabric surface. This helps prevent you and your sleeping bag from slipping at night. It may also be quieter.
